Is there a sure fire way to avoid these nuisances. I have been going through every bit of info I can lay my hands on to avoid them, but still end up getting zapped.
In a sub, I hear the TIW announcement, but cannot track it until it is too late. On the FFG I fail to hear the torpedoes at all! :gdamnit:

Disregard that above insert. Got a whole bunch of stuff here - thank you gentlemen, particularly Molon Labe. Am going to try all of these new tactics tonight, will report back later. :arms:

Although it comes at the end of the thread, the comments by Fish and others about getting the torp to sweep over the decoy are especially important.
And thanks.

Thanks Molon Labe again. Getting more and more out of this every day! Another question to highlight my stupidity here. In the bering Strait, in an LA class looking for subs. Soon afetr mission start, get two TIW messages. Take a quick snapshot and conduct evasive maneuvers. My problem is that whilst doing this and putting up CM's, I am not controlling the Sonar suite, and so cannot see what is happening there. Anyway, eventually finish my maneuvers and take control of the sonar, but receive no Pings from the torps. The data tells me that the last Ping was almost five minutes ago. Anyway, I nailed the enemy sub, and quit mission before his torps could nail me, but how did I lose track of them?

That's sorta what the replay is for. My best guess is that the TIWs were from SUBROCs and that they landed on ice. (Assuming you're using LW/Ami) If they were torpedoes, they might have hit an ice keel en route, or enabled on the other side of you. Or maybe the pings from 5 minutes ago were from the torps? It's not inconceivable that his torps passed by you 5 minutes before yours hit him, depending on your evasion courses.
It's best to head to sonar before you crank up the speed all they way. It only takes a few seconds to tell if the TIW was from a torpedo or missile launch, possibly identify the torpedo type, and assign a tracker to it. You might even be able to get a quick triangulation to use when you set the RTE on the snapshot.

Sheeesh!! I have decided to take the soft option here, and am perfecting my skills in the P3 first. The Subs are great, but I do not think that I would like to be in the water facing any of you chaps just yet. Also, what makes the Orion easy is One Shots manual - my searches are yielding results, and if I could just get the missiles set properley, surface craft would be iced also. However, Rome not being built in a day etc, I will persist. I am also astounded at the amount of information that one requires, and is available, to drive the subs effectively - you guys have done an excellent job here. I am sure there are a lot of people out there who bought the game and no longer use it.
Anyway, I am rushing the fish evasions, and not tracking them correctly, so am trying to slow myself down before going into my high jink maneuvres. Not used to missiles being fired that take so long to hit target, more used to air combat sims. Am also finding my system crashes to desktop after an extended amount of time, about 90 to 120 minutes. :gdamnit: Am upgrading soon!
Thanks guys, and I hope that you continue hosting and making MP games, cos I look forward to meeting you somewhere out in the deep. :attack:
