Dive and Towed Array deployments and retrieval Rates

The following is a short excerpt of the test results from a test made by Ron Banks a.k.a SubSailor. The full document is attached to this post.

Array deployment

Stbd array deploy 10 minutes and retrieved in 10.48 minutes
Port array deployed in 6. 10 minutes and retrieved in 6 minutes.

Depth changes
- PD to 1254 starting at 5kts 12.15 minutes
-- speed increased to 10kts at 200 feet
-- and increased to 20kts at 500ft. 12.15 minutes

- 1254ft to PD (see above for automatic speed increases) 4.55 minutes.

Akula
Array deployment
- Deployed and retrieved Towed Array (701 meters) 4.35 minutes.

Depth changes
- PD to 442 meters
-- speed changes at 45 meters 10kts
-- 40 meters 20kts, time 11 minutes.

- 442 to PD 3.44 minutes (same auto speed change) 3.44 minutes.

Seawolf
Array deployment

Stbd Towed Array deployed 9.58 minutes and retrieved in 10.55.
Port Towed Array deployed in 4.35 minutes and retrieved in 4.35.

Depth changes
- PD to 1761 feet starting at 5kts with changes in speed
-- at 130ft, 10kts and at
-- 230ft, 20kts. Time 9.50 minutes.

- 1761 to PD (same auto speed change) 4 minutes.

Kilo
Depth changes
- PD to 254 meters 4kts 9.5 minutes.
- 254 to PD 4.0 minutes.

Wow! Those are slower TA deployments than I expected, I'm surprised I didn't notice!

In the linked file, he says the TA deployments were at 5kts, and that this was with 1.03+LW/Ami.

TA deployment speed is on the list of things that we are going to change for LWAMI 3.00, and I can tell you as someone who frequently finds himself adjusting his TA, this is a most welcome change for me. :wink:

I play the US subs most of the time, well 95% of the time, and I have to tell you the stuff you accomplished with your v1.03 is great. I have not tried the aircraft, about all I do well on them is crash, and for some reason the FFG does not do anything for me. I am playing the Akulas more but I am still struggling to try and figure out a good weapon load out. I will probabluy work some with the Kilo. I just like your work. The MK 48s perform like I remember them.

The results for the Towed Array Tests, each test was done 3 times to ensure good data, only the average of the three tests for each boat is reported.

Test Speed : 15kts
Test depth : 120 feet. Akula 42 meters.
