Is it true to say that you will not be able to hear the mirror sonar report of a vessel that you are tracking? I had a surface vessel, Russian, forget what type, and could hear the true track clealry but not the mirror track at all. However, subsequently, I was tracking a submarine and I could hear the sub on the true track and the mirror track.
Also, what should my settings be to view the blips on the waterfall clearly? My autocrew are more adept at picking up tracks than me. Why?

There will be a mirror contact displayed for all towed array contacts.

Graphics settings aren't usually a big issue for the broadband. If you adjust the brightness so that you can see a faint line on the Seawolf's NB, you should be fine for everything else.

If the AC is picking up new tracks before you, it's either because they're overlapping and you didn't pick the new one out, or because you're not looking (you should be able to outperform the AC at initial detection, substantially). Make sure you're using the NB station for initial detection--my guess is you're using the BB, which is only really useful for getting DEMON and evaluating a TIW.

Bellman has a visual display kit that you can use to adjust your monitor for sonar help here at Subguru (http://www.subguru.com/DW_missions/SVAC.ZIP).
