It's a bare-bones Kilo, no prop, planes, ect. First upload, any comments welcome.

Didn't we agree on 3DS format ? I can't read these (at the moment).

I thought you could take .gmax models.
Anyway, while we figure this out, I've started work on a Sturgeon last week. It's about 75% done.

Yes .. I have gmax .. I just can't make it work,it needs some registration and the turbosquid web site seem to have some troubles. I'm still trying. I hope I will make it work in the end .. so if you can wait there is no problem.
Ok .. so it seems I finally make it work. Third email address I provided to them finally worked :-D
I can read the model. Anyway it seems gmax has no useful export to anything. If we are to use the models, I would have to write gmax parser.
The model is really simple yet, but is it really Kilo ? What references do you use ? The shape seems bit off to me. Also the sail uses much more polygons then needed.
We need accurate and effective models. Look at Xabba's Foxtrot included in the demo, it is 3DS. It is even in metric scale, and as accurate as I could get info about.

Yeah, after looking at it, it does seem a bit odd looking. A bit too short after comparing it to the DW model, also the bottom of the stern could use a change. Anything else?
It WAS my first model with Gmax (probably explains some of the problems). Also, what do you mean by the sail using too much polygons? Can the program not handle it? It was nothing more than a 16-sided cylinder, just like the hull.
As for sources, I was studying a picture of a Kilo on FAS, along with a line drawing (for hullshape). I would KILL for better resources, but I don't have a Jane's account and do not know of anything else. Where does Xabba get his references?
I'll also need to talk to Xabba about animation, including the props and planes.
I imported Xabba's Foxtrot to Gmax and am studying. It's a well-crafted model, if I may add... :)
That was just my first one anyway, and I wanted to see what you needed. It is only a basic model.
I'll reflect on what you said. See you soon!

No .. no problem at all. It's just a bit out of balance compared to the hull. If it is your first model, it's understendable :-)

No idea.
Animation itself is not defined in the object. Only parts are. Each part in 3DS has it's center defined, so it's simple to rotate them. How it is done in the modeler, I don't know.
And again I have to say that GMAX does not seem to be able to export into any usable format. We must solve this. Please check some GMAX forums about this.

Yeah .. sure .. don't worry and study. Just don't expect we want anything less then perfect :-D Also expect that if you make it poor, somebody else will make another Kilo and we will use the better one in official release.

Oh, I understand about using someone else's model (presumably Xabba at this point).
I'll search around about the formats later. I'm going to be very busy this whole upcoming week (moving from Orlando to Atlanta), so I may not post anything during then.
Thanks!
