Hello, I have searched the forms and didn’t come up with any solutions to my problem. I haven’t been playing Dangerous Waters long, but I find this game/sim very addictive. I am using version 1.04 with the LwAmi Mod version 3.08
My questions is about the Seawolf submarine’s Narrowband Sonar. I am able to see sound contacts in the Narrowband but I am unable to mark any contacts in the Narrowband. I have to switch to the Broadband to mark a contact. This is not problem with only a few contacts in the area but it becomes confusing when there a lot of contacts.
I thought I wasn’t able to mark contacts because they were too weak. I created a test mission with a cargo ship running at full steam. I was able to see the ship on the sonar but I was unable to mark the contact in the Narrowband.

Post a screenshot so that we can see.

Also, go thru the process you take to attempt to mark a contact in narrowband. If the cursor isn't on the frequency exactly, then it won't mark it.

First I would like to thank you for the speedy reply, I know it can become tiresome when you have new players asking many questions.
My game options are set up with Show Dead Platforms on, Show Truth off, Show Allies on, Show Link Data on, Weapon Quick Launch off, Aircraft Quick Launch off, Quick Damage Repair off, Enable Tool Tips on, Enable Wind on, Enable Currents on, Enable Wave riding on.
The cargo ship is just port of my ship, at about 1000 yards. I wanted to make sure I had a solid contact.
I am at a depth of 492ft. There is a thermal layer at 770ft. In this first shot you can see the a large spike witch is the cargo ship. I have moved the cursor in the search display window over the spike and verified I have selected the contact in the waterfall.

Once the waterfall is active I click on Display Signature and start to classify the contact. (in this mission I know it is a cargo ship so there is no need to get a more frequency lines.)

After I make the classification I click BACK to return to the main menu on the sonar. I make sure the contact is still selected and click TRACKER ASSIGN. This is where I am having problems. After I click on TRACKER ASSIGN nothing happens, I read that sometimes It takes a few presses to mark the contact so I give it a few more tries with no results.

I then move to the broadband display where I can see the contact on the waterfall. The cursor is already on the contact so I click on TRACKER ASSIGN and then I it will designate the contact as S1.

When I return to the narrowband, it does not show the contact as S1. This inst a problem in this Serrano because there is only one contact. It does become confusing when more than one ship is in the area.

Thanks again for all the help.

I don't see the hash mark on the narrowband display that indicates what frequency you've tried to mark, so it looks like what you've done was tried to mark the bearing of the contact without actually selecting the contact to mark. Remember that top window is not your narrowband sensor display, it's just a combination of a "dial" that you use to determine from what bearing narrowband information will be displayed, superimposed on a carryover feed from the broadband sensor so you know without scanning where some contacts might be found. The middle display is your narrowband display, and you need to select a frequency there to mark in order to assign a tracker.

Also, I don't think you can to locate trackers assigned in broadband at the narrowband station. Considering they already give you some broadband data in NB, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to have this information, but still, I don't think the system as modeled does.

Thank you VERY MUCH. All is working as it should be, the error was between the chair and my keyboard. Sorry for letting my noob-ism show.

I'll add to this in that it works the opposite way though. If you mark a contact for a particular frequency in NB, it will populate with the corresponding Sierra letter in BB.

Don't worry about the noob questions...that's what we are here for.

One of the best SC divers I ever played against used to make the same mistake when he switched to DW. Don't worry about it!
