In an effort to get this forum more active I will now start a topic on the different types of air units we want to see in this game if it gets completed.
I use wiki to give info on the units I want to see. I know the arguments against wiki but articles about aircraft (Except the KC-45) are not controversial and good for general info.
Tho I use other sources when I can.
So please post your picks!

Kamov Ka-27
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a5/Kamov_Ka-27_MAKS_2005.jpg/300px-Kamov_Ka-27_MAKS_2005.jpg
The helicopter was developed for ferrying and anti-submarine warfare. Design work began in 1970 and the first prototype flew in 1973. It was intended to replace the decade-old Kamov Ka-25, and is similar in appearance to its predecessor due to the requirements of fitting in the same hangar space. Like other Kamov military helicopters it has a co-axial rotor, removing the need for a tail rotor.

You thought you were safe in that 688 as you stalked that Soviet battlegroup hoping to feed them some MK-48s. You thought things were going to be great until suddenly you hear splashes and then the sound of a chopper flying overhead. That is right! They heard you and now you are the prey of a hungry bear of a chopper wanting to introduce you to the bottom.

F-35 Lightning II

F-35 Lightning II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-35)
F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-35.htm)
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a single-seat, single-engine, stealth-capable military strike fighter, a multi-role aircraft that can perform close air support, tactical bombing, and air-to-air combat. The F-35 has three different models; one is the conventional takeoff and landing variant, the second is short-takeoff and vertical-landing variant, and the third is a carrier-based variant.
The F-35C carrier variant will have a larger, folding wing and larger control surfaces for improved low-speed control, and stronger landing gear for the stresses of carrier landings. The larger wing area provides decreased landing speed, increased range and payload, with twice the range on internal fuel compared with the F/A-18C Hornet, achieving much the same goal as the heavier F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
The US Navy intends to buy 480 F-35Cs to replace the F/A-18A, -B, -C, and -D Hornets. It will also serve as a stealthier complement to the Super Hornet. On 27 June 2007, the carrier variant completed its Air System Critical Design Review (CDR). This allows the F-35C to go to Low Rate Initial Production.
Why do I list a fighter with no real ASW weapons? A simple matter of sensors and stealth
Sensors
The main sensor on board the F-35 is its AN/APG-81 AESA-radar, designed by Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. It is augmented by the Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) mounted under the nose of the aircraft, designed by Lockheed Martin and BAE.[63] Further electro-optical sensors are distributed over the aircraft as part of the AN/AAS-37 system which acts as missile warning system and can aid in navigation and night operations.
Stealth technology makes the aircraft hard to detect as it approaches short-range tracking radar.
If it catches you it can send you a gift in the form of ASW aircraft.
Also it of course will be used to blast hostile aircraft out of the sky.

No offense but in my opinion the F-35 would be more suited for a (Combat) Flight Simulator ... after all (even if it includes Air Units) this sim is dedicated to subs. If it evolves in the future into a battlefield sim then inclusion of fighter aircraft would be useful, but right now Id prefer to have a well working sim who deals appropriately with units on or below the surface.
My suggestion would be - if we start with air units - to have sort of a "basic" working template for a MPA and an ASW capable Helicopter. Next step would be to "personalize" those templates into actual types like a Bear or and Orion.
Way down the road when the ASW part works perfectly it might be interesting to improve on some aspects like the radar simulation (for example) to included Air-to-Air and thus pave the way for inclusion of fighters. Or step onto the hard surface and allow land units ...
Anyway, this is all way in the future and I'd settle for a good ASW sim right now.

Tupolev Tu-142
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ec/Tu-142m1.jpg/300px-Tu-142m1.jpg
The Tupolev Tu-142 (Туполев Ту–142) (NATO reporting name Bear F and Bear J) is a Russian maritime reconnaissance/anti-submarine warfare (ASW) turboprop aircraft. It is based on the Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bomber.
Originally designed as a maritime surveillance aircraft to supplement the Bear D, the Bear F evolved to become the premier anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft of the Soviet Navy during the Cold War. The ASW variants were designated as Tu-142M2 (Bear F Mod 2), Tu-142M3 (Bear F Mod 3), and Tu-142M4 (Bear F Mod 4).

It is a B-52 compared the P-3! Big and and dangerous due to the extreme range.

Hawker Siddeley Nimrod - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Siddeley_Nimrod)
The Nimrod is a maritime patrol aircraft developed in the United Kingdom. It is an extensive modification of the de Havilland Comet, the world's first jet airliner. It was originally designed by de Havilland's successor, Hawker Siddeley, now part of BAE Systems. A major modification was the fit of a large weapon bay under the fuselage that can carry and drop torpedoes, mines, bombs and other stores. Sonobuoys for tracking submarines are dropped from special launchers in the rear of the fuselage.
It has been the Royal Air Force's primary Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) since the early 1970s, when it replaced the piston-engined Avro Shackleton. The RAF uses two Nimrod variants: the MR2 variant in the Maritime and Reconnaissance role; the R1 variant in a reconnaissance and electronic intelligence gathering capacity (ELINT).
Performance
* Maximum speed: Mach 0.77
* Range: 11,119 km (6,910 mi)

The Sukhoi Su-33 (NATO reporting name 'Flanker-D') is carrier-based multi-role fighter aircraft produced by Russian firm Sukhoi beginning in 1982. It is a derivative of the Su-27 'Flanker' and was initially known as the Su-27K. The main difference from the Su-27 is that the Su-33 can operate from aircraft carriers. Unlike the Su-27, the Su-33 is capable of aerial refueling.

F-19 Stealth Fighter
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fd/F-19_Stealth_Fighter.png
"F-19" is a designation for a United States fighter aircraft that has never been officially used, and has engendered much speculation that it might refer to a type of aircraft whose existence is still classified.
Cultural references
* In the 1983 Chevy Chase film Deal of the Century, Gregory Hines' character "Ray Kasternak" piloted an F-19 in a dogfight against an autonomous drone fighter.
* In 1986, the Testor Corporation released a model aircraft kit, calling it the F-19 Stealth Fighter. [2][3]
* Jane's Information Group published an incorrect entry on the F-19 in their aviation reference, Jane's All the World's Aircraft 1986-1987. In addition to the fictitious artwork, the 1987-1988 and 1988-89 editions lists the aircraft as the "Lockheed RF-19 and XST". [4]
* In 1988, Microprose released a computer game entitled F-19 Stealth Fighter, the first computer simulation of stealth air combat.
* In his 1986 novel Red Storm Rising, Tom Clancy featured the F-19 as a secret weapon used to combat a Soviet invasion of Germany. This vehicle was considerably more capable than the F-117, being a supersonic fighter rather than a subsonic bomber.
F-19 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-19)
F-19 Stealth Fighter is a combat flight simulator released in 1988 by MicroProse, featuring a fictional United States military aircraft. It was the 16-bit version of the 1987 game Project Stealth Fighter, which was released for the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. At the time of the game's release there was heavy speculation surrounding a missing aircraft in the Air Force's numbering system, the F-19. This game was based on an educated guess about what the new Stealth fighter would be like. The Microprose offices were even visited by U.S. intelligence personnel to make sure that Microprose did not have access to classified documents. And once the game was released the Soviets bought several copies of the game.
Allowing the player to choose appropriate ordnance from a wide range of realistic armaments, the game set standards for realism and authenticity in military aviation simulations, and was noted for the convincing behaviour of AI controlled units such as enemy aircraft, SAM sites and radar stations.

Ok I know I am going to get it now... I can already expect the "This has nothing to do with teh subsub!!111!1"
Look I love the F-19 the ideas the game the possibilities. Overall just a great bag of win.
Heck even in the game you could operate from a CVN!
Now obviously the performance and ability of the F-19 is all a bunch of talk so I propose the F-19 be an "Icon" of testing.
As it seems to be able to do everything from Stealth (F19 Game) to FLIR Bomber (F-19 Game) to Supersonic Stealth Fighter (Red Storm Rising) It is perfect for a test platform for a multitude of different things.
Like weapons it can use just about anything that isn't the size of a Torpedo

Tupolev Tu-22M
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/38/Tupolev_Tu-22m3.jpg/300px-Tupolev_Tu-22m3.jpg
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/88/Tupolev_Tu-26_BACKFIRE.png/300px-Tupolev_Tu-26_BACKFIRE.png
The Tupolev Tu-22M (NATO reporting name "Backfire") is a supersonic, swing-wing, long-range strategic and maritime strike bomber developed by the Soviet Union. Significant numbers remain in service with the Russian Air Force.
The first major production version, entering production 1972, was the Tu-22M2 ('Backfire-B'), with longer wings and an extensively redesigned, area ruled fuselage (raising the crew complement to four), twin NK-22 engines with F-4 Phantom II-style intakes, and new undercarriage carrying the landing gear in the wing glove rather than in large pods. These were most commonly armed with long-range cruise missiles/anti-ship missiles, typically one or two AS-4 'Kitchen' anti-shipping missiles. Some Tu-22M2s were later requipped with more powerful NK-23 engines and redesignated Tu-22M2Ye. In service, the Tu-22M2 was known to its crews as Dvoika ('Deuce'). It was more popular than the Tu-22, thanks to its superior performance and improved cockpit, but its comfort and reliability still left much to be desired.
Performance
* Maximum speed: Mach 2.3 (2,327 km/h,)
* Range: 7000 km (4971 mi)
* Combat radius: 2410 km (1500 mi)
* Service ceiling 13,300 m (40,635 ft)
* Rate of climb: 15m/s (91ft/s)
* Wing loading: 688 kg/m² (147 lb/ft²)
* Thrust/weight: 0.40
