hey,

i'm pretty new to Sub Command, that is, i don't play it often, and i can't find confirmation or explanation to my question so here goes:

what the hell is the sonar auto crewman smoking? and where can i get some?

why do all these auto sonar contacts come up when there is absolutely zilch going on in the passive broadband sonar screen (other than background noise)?

if i'm trying to do passive broadband sonar manually, do i have to scan all the frequencies by moving the cursor up and down the frequency scale or is it sufficient to just listen for sounds and besides: shouldn't there be some kind of marking on the intermediate or long term record?

please help. thanks!

It's probably marking the redundant contact on the towed array.

You'll see something on the display before it can be heard. Audio signals are only given for the bearing the cursor is positioned at.

from watching the sonar auto-crewman, i gather that, first, you smoke something, then, you move the cursor along the sonar frequencies until something magical happens, then you designate it as a contact.

is there a tutorial on manual sonar? i looked around for one, but i suppose that i am the only one dumb enough to actually need one.

and do you do your scanning on narrowband first? then mark the contact and try to find it on broadband?

Broadband is close to useless in SC. Once you have a tracker in narrowband and you know you have the real contact (instead of the redundant contact on the towed array) then the only thing left to do is get his speed from DEMON.

I suspected that broadband is useless. I would Show Truth, then pull up behind a Cargo Ship, and STILL no broadband.

Is broadband useless in Dangerous Waters too?

No, it's needed to be able to get DEMON data.

I get that in SC, although DW seems to be free of that problem. Unless there really are silent Q-ships out there!
