Penguin Missile Ad

Lo there, long-time SC and DW player here. Actually you may or may not know me under the alias "Blackmuzzle", from the DW sound mod (which, by the way, is still available on playspoon.com)

Here's something I found when I cleared out some drawers: A genuine advertising page for the Penguin missile. The ad was in a military magazine of the year 1999, and I thought you might like to see it :)

Thanks. I love military weapons ads because it's such an odd thing to advertise, what, with only a handful of politicians and officers who are part of making procurement decisions.

Glad you like it. And it does indeed seem odd at first glance, but then again these ads are not about making an actual sale. They're there to build awareness of a particular product, to spread their brand name.

I'd love to say that the people making the decisions are well above being influenced by ads (or bribes, for that matter), but the sad truth is that there's a good amount of incompetence and half-knowledge out there. I personally overheard a high-ranking officer refer to the external fuel tanks of a Blackhawk helicopter as "missiles". And that guy was in a position where he should've known everything that is to know about military aviation.
