Setting : Beer (slow Cable:Host) / OneShot (fast aDSL:Joined)
Communication : TeamSpeak

First off - this was a blast, now down to the actual events.
Today I played 3 (1 of them 2 times) custom missions (by Beer) on the P3C hunting subs. The first one alone against a KILO and the second mission in conjunction with an AI controlled FFG (didnt do us much good tho ).

The stations were divided as following :
Beer :
- Pilot
- TACCO
OneShot :
- Accoustics
- MAD/ESM
- Radar
- Camera

During the game we had no problems at all, no lag, no connection break up nothing. We noticed one thing with the custom missions tho, after the first mission the game asked me to download the other custom mission which I OKed, but after that I couldnt Ready up and even tho Beer did see me Ready we couldnt load the mission. Might be a bug.

Anyway, back to the game - as mentioned earlier we divided up the stations and once in the game everybody set up his stations. We could both access the map, however I couldn't turn on truth, Beer could and once he did we both got to see the truth, means thats out the window if somebody thinks about cheating(Good thing). During MP you can turn on Autocrew which I did for those stations where I'm not at, at the moment. It worked flawlessly.
For the first two missions we had the setting as described above with Beer as TACCO and Pilot and me doing the rest and it was really really cool, given the fact that we had Voice Comms during the whole game up (without problems I want mention) it was real intense. The KILO was tough, as it's a real silent SOB, but after a dozen sonobuoys or so we got a lead on him and thanks to Beer cornered him after that pretty fast. It tried to retaliate by shooting two SAMs - bad idea! Unlike the Autopilot, Beer managed to evade the missiles and we closed in on him for the kill and finished him off. Eat that sucker ... HOOYAH. Unfortunatly in the Debrief we foudn out that we should have investigated and intercepted the Fast moving surface contact I noticed at the beginning of the mission on the Radar. It was a Powerboat, but it wasn't mentioned in the Briefing and well - shit happens.

Now on to the next mission. We played this one two times. We and a FFG were in an Ops Area about 60 miles wide and 60 miles high looking for an AKULA-II. The spawn points are random, during the first run we started in bottom right corner of the box, while on the second in the upper left corner. The FFG will very slowly cross the box, and Beer initally laid a line of buoys in front of the FFG about 12 miles away from it as a Screen against the Akula before we moved on to actively hunting for it. After some time we got lucky and got hot on one buoy, that led to a close search and slowy we worked our way towards the Akula. It's not as silent as the Kilo but still a bitch to get. Finally we got a good passive lead plus some positive MAD returns. Beer dropped an DICASS nearly on top of it and with it we got a final solution and nailed it.

After that we changed positions and I did the TACCO and Pilot job while he did the rest. This time we started at the top left corner and again the first order of the day was a to get a BT reading and a buoy screen in front of the FFG, tho I was a bit closer then Beer, but that didn't matter. I then started expanding my barrier screen along of the projected path of the FFG. Neat little rows of buoys about 5 miles between the buoys in a row and nearly 10 miles between the rows. Finally after about half an hour or so (and with a short look at truth) we got the first look on the Akula. (judging from the direction it was driving it would have ended in the buoy net sooner or later). And again cornered it slowly but steadily. A few MAD passes and a couple of buoys later I had a hard solution and then made an Error, I promoted the contact on the Link and as a result the FFG did send in the helo who killed the Akula only seconds before I could do it *Sniff*. Still we go the Akula and even tho we didnt kill it, the mission was considered a success.

I have learned a lot of things in those few hours. For example there is a Radio horizon, if you fly low (300ft) you get the buoy data until you are about 15 to 20 miles out (little bug here : even when it says "Lost Contact" you can still Scuttle em), if you go higher - for example 1000ft you can fly a lot farther away from your buoys (at that high I could access nearly all buoys in the AO). And the P3C needs some space to turn even at slow speeds (160kts), I learned it the hard way when I tried to tell the autopilot to turn 180degree within 500ft (next time I look how much I'm zoomed in).

Still I can only say the experience was a blast (and its really fun to play with Beer) and I can't wait to repeat it. That means more Reviews to come.
