And another old Review of mine, full thread can be found here : My Review on DW (Part V) (http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=41;t=000177#000000)

Today I got another chance of flying with my favourite TACCO - Beer_OW.

Our first mission today was again a custom mission. Goal : To kill a OHP (controlled by AI) without getting killed first. To make matters a bit more complicated two civilian ships are in the area as well. The first start didnt go well, we got shot down approximatly one minute into the game from the FFG, Reason : we turned the Radar on and were to close to the FFG at that time, thanks to random respawn. So that didn't work and we gave it another try, this time hitting the deck and keeping EMCON till everything was set and we were ready. Then Beer slowly brought us up to 1000ft while closely watching ESM before I turned on the radar for 3 short sweeps and then we hit the deck again. With this method and varying altitudes we searched around till we found our first contact which turned out to be a freighter. Bit later tho we got hits on the Helo and then on the Frigate itself. We danced around it some before we got a pretty good idea where it actually is and then it was chicken time. We barrled down on the latest ESM bearing, Radar turned off and the camera ready. Beer had a finger on the Mavericks while I was glued to the camera and then finally I got a positive visual on the OHP, seconds later about 5 Mavericks flew away from the P3 bound for the OHP. And BOOM, good bye FFG - this time we were the winners. We watched it sinkin slowly and paid a courtesy call to the Helo. At that time I wished to have a sidewinder at my disposal ... but well.

For the next round we tried something different. Beer got the P3 while I took the FFG and it was head to head - who gets whom first. Once the game started I worked through the stations of the FFG. Checked the bridge, gave green deck for the Helo, put the Helo on Standby 5, turned on Radar and unfortunatly put the CIWS on Full Auto. Then I readied my first SM-2 and looked around my sensors if I might have a contact allready. I didn't notice at that time but apparently my Radar had allready picked up the P3 (I just turned on the Air Radar, since thats where my target is) but no visual. And then I made a serious mistake. While I still had the CIWS on Full Auto I started my Helicopter and all I could hear was short Whumpa Whumpa Whumpa right after I got the message "Hello airborne" and then instead of one Helicopter I had little Helicopter pieces thanks to my CIWS. So no Helo for the rest of the game. Didn't matter in the end as I had a solid contact on the P3 and barreled in on it at Flank Speed. Beer had a line on me too, thanks to ESM (but no distance) and did the same, so again it was a game of chicken. Unfortunatly for him I had a solid lock and the SM-2 allready in the barrel, he never saw it comming. Splash one - one shot, one kill!!

After this we played a regular mission shipped with the game where you have to defend a Cargo ship against an Akula. The ship is just leaving Sicily and the goal is that it gets over 30 miles away from land. This time we searched for more then an hour without so much of a whif from the Akula. The only contacts we had were our "Target" plus three more civilian ships. After we expanded nearly all of our buoys (we are talking 40+ here) and since I had to leave soon, he turned on truth to get a quick look. That Akula had sneaked up behind our barriers but was way of any chance of getting the ship. The Akula was driving at 5 kts while the Cargo Ship did 15 and they allready had a distance of more then 15 miles next to the fact that they were headign different ways. Still we wanted the mission to complete soon so we turned off truth and flew into the general direction where the AKula was and got a MAD return. I got him on the Active buoy Beer dropped there and Beer set up for the Attack. a minute later we were short a torpedo and the Akula was at the bottom (Notice here - after the short look, the Truth was turned off). Plus one for the good guys and this ends my Review at this moment.

Lessons learned today :
- Dont start your Helicopter when you have the CIWS on (unless of course you don't like it).
- Never scuttle your sonobuoys - they might come in handy later where they are now.
- Be carefull with your Radar when you are flying around watching for FFGs.
- If you got lots of buoys, turn off Autocrew in Accoustics unless of course you want hundreds of lines on your Nav Map.
- Trust your Radar/ESM/MAD autocrew, they are doing a good job.
- Screw the autopilot when a missile is aimed at you, fly yourself.
