View Full Version : [Problem] TLAM's not exploding on contact

VERY VERY frustrating... I assume it's a bug,. but perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

A good example of this is in the North Korean Mission when my seawolf is ordered to destroy an airport and a head quarters.

If I salvo launch the 6 tomahawks at the Airport and the two and the HQ as ordered, almost 90% simply pop under the Building texture and disappear without any detonation. I assumed maybe there was an altitude issue, but I can find no reference to setting detonation heights ?

I've tried this with my own waypoints, using the "show truth" function, even simply having the autocrew "engage" target.

Seems my only solution is to launch one missile, if it hits, save the file and then try again.... I'm on my 20th missile !

I am running the LWAMI 3.09 Plus the Steam version (1.04)

Very late with a response...
But something similar popped up over at the subsim forum.

I've pasted in my reply from there.

First, vanilla DW patched 1.04 does not have this problem with the Taiwan Strait TLAMs. My TLAMs hit the Ningpo buildings 12 out of 12 every time.

I replaced the TLAM doctrine with the LwAmi ones. Everything works perfectly, so no problem there. But not with the LwAmi309 mod activated.
So I started looking around with the DW editor. And I found following:
TLAM Surf - Object Type: missile - Sim Type: missile.
TLAM - Object Type: missile - Sim Type: torpedo.
TASM - Object Type: missile - Sim Type: missile.

In stock DW there's only one TLAM in the database and both object & sim type were missile.

That 'sim type torpedo' seemed strange to me so I changed it to missile. And while I was there I increased the TLAM damage to 556 because that was the damage for the TASM.

I tried out the mission (several times) and it worked. I do get an occasional dud but I'm able to kill the naval base (100pct damage) and one of the shipyards with my 12 TLAMs.
I do not put my TLAM waypoint on the exact location of the objects because they are in the water but just 'over the edge on land' and I spread them a little.

When I tested this for coastal targets, just for kicks I also tested it for inland targets and found that there was no difference. Did you also test inland targets?

I did put a chemical plant few miles to the NW of the navy base, and that got hit with sim type torpedo just fine. It got destroyed in one hit.
Must say I only tried it once...

Okay thanks. I ran two tests, 6 missiles each, which was less than my test for the coastal target but I figured it was enough.

Unfortunately, TLAMs can be buggy even without us modders tampering with them. They've never been quite right in DW and probably never will be (without some serious improvement of the hardcoded stuff, anyways).
