The 3D models are really the only aspect of Dangerous Waters that are not high quality. For example look at the 3D model for the Typhoon and compare it to photos of an actual typhoon class sub. If it possible to change these models? If so has anyone? Thanks

It is possible to create and import new 3-d models.
In fact, this was done extensively for Sub Command by a design team called Sub Command eXtreme.
However, these models have not been released for Dangerous Waters for reasons only the SCX team knows, and the existence of these models and the potential for their release has dissuaded others from making models for DW.
It is a source of frustation and dissappointment for many of us, but this situation will change sooner or later as people grow weary of waiting and make their own, or the DWX team starts contributing equal to their weight.

Is this the SCXIIc(or something like that) I saw mentioned before? Would the exact same models from this Sub Command eXtreme group work in Dangerous Waters? Or would they need to me modified? Are their models copyrighted? Was the SCX mod free or was it bought? Thanks for your help

look on www.subguru.com (http://www.subguru.com) 's downloads page for"
XabbaRus's "Xmodels" Sub & Skins Mod (5 MByte) (http://subguru.com/DW_missions/Xmodels.rar)
Improved models & paint jobs for your favorite Dangerous Waters subs!
(Includes Sonalyst's Sound vs Speed Database Fix)
Now you might need to install diffrently if you have the newist patch. Just use DWEdit (also aviable from Subguru) and change the 3D model's names to the Xmodels names.

The models need to be changed somewhat from SCX in order to work completely properly.
The models are free and not copywrited but that doesn't make things any easier, since this is a reasonably close knit community.
I don't recommend the Xmods on www.subguru.com (http://www.subguru.com) . Xabba was compelled by the creators of the Xmods to remove the models from the distribution that weren't his, but the installer wasn't changed, meaning that if you install the Xmods package, it will simply delete the old models for some objects, leaving you with nothing for a significant number of platforms.

In terms of DW versions:
If you bought the retail, the version was 1.02. This version includes the sound vs. speed hotfix.
I recommend patching to 1.03b, and of course, you can also try the LWAMI 3.00b Mod.

I have 1.03B and I will get LWAMI, but I heard it made some of the Akula's panels not function for a torpedo(delibratly for realism) and until I understand the Akula better(I have the Seawolf, 688(i), P-3C, and the MH60 down) , I don't want anything (else) confusing me
Well you better get used to the real things because this is what we will have ahead and if you want to find MP games with players that play realistic then you must use those mods.

OT : I don't have that big a problem with people posting quick questions unregistered. However I would suggest that you take the few minutes and register. That way everybody knows whom he is talking to. Plus it opens a lot more options for you on the CADC. Oh, and registering is free.

The LWAMI Mod remakes the Akula weapons somewhat.
The 65cm wireguided torpedo (a weapon that does not exist) is made into the 65-76 wakehoming torpedo (the wire is removed so the wire screen in the fire control does not work, this is probably what you are referring to). The useless 53cm is made into the UGST, which is comparable to the ADCAP and is now the primary multipurpose wireguided torpedo for the Akula.
Other than that, the only changes that are made is to increase the range of the SS-N-27 ASW to 27nm and reduce the speed of its torpedo payload and make the SS-N-27 ASM into a two stage weapon: a first sub-sonic cruise stage with a long range that launches the supersonic second stage when it detects a target, which is roughly how this missile is reported to work in real life.
The balance of these changes in my opinion is to make the Akula a more effective weapon, since the 65-76 wakehomer is a fantastic ASuW weapon, the UGST is just as good as the old 65cm for ASW, and the SS-N-27 family has a lot more flavor now. :arms: :attack:

I know oneshot, you've asked me to register before (Sound Propagation), and I eventually will, probably if I have any more questions I'll register. I can never think of good names though.....
Oh and I installed LWAMI 3.00B

I always thought Mannequin would be a decent, if a little effiminent online name.
I still like it though... :slap:
