Is it just me, or does the OHP Helo not detect or uplink visual contacts? I've passed my helo right on top of a merchant for identification and all I get is nothing...

... anyone else have then problem or know how to correct it?

I'm not sure what's happening for you here... the helo should promote visual contacts to the link just fine, complete with identifications.

Yes the helo should give you a visual contact ID, provided there is a contact on that possition.
Now you have to think if the contact you supposed to be there was really there at the time the helo was there.
It could have sunk, it could be miles away or it could be a sub that had submerged or even being confused as fishing vessel. TA in the FFG uses to confuse subs with fishing vessels quite frecuently. Best way to know what kind of contact it is, is to check you EW. Usually merchies or trawlers have their civilian sets on so you know who they are, second thing is to send the helo near the suspected contact, then go to the Weapons Control Station (F-10) select Gun Control and on the left side of the screen open the label CAMERA, and clicking on the arrows of this window, select HELO Camera. If the helicopter is near the target and you have selected this target as your Gun target (you do not have to fire on it for that  ) then you are supposed to see the target through the helicopter Camera.
If nothing is there, review this contact information, specially the sources and if the Age is not so old and the information is only from acustic sensors , suspect it could be b a sub. Since your helo is near, it cost nothing to drop a nice DICASS and go active.
I have a tremendous pleasure imagine our bubblehead friends face when cruising at pleasure on their steel tubes and suddenly hear a blast ping just overhead.
I would love Sonalyst implement some kind of webcam on the game so I could see this :arms:

i havent played much with the FFG so im a little unsure how that is

but i gotta on the helo say the AC/AI visual spotting is BAD im thinking of having them checked for cataracts or somthin there always Way of confuse cruise ships for fishing boats one of my first games i passed the mad right over a supposed sub on the third pass somebody finialy decided to say "new visual contact bearing 358" i look up and its an enemy Destroyer @ about 500 yards . still learning and all confused as i sat there hovering over the destroyer i turned the truth on to see what was goin on turns out its just me and him and yes he's really Right beneath me, as an interesting note with the truth off the confidece of the contact was Low but fairly acurate as to where it was showed to the left and away a little with a high confidence sub right under it

so to recap they were fairly certain that they were hovering within 500 yards of a enemy destryoyer but they wernt sure where it was or if it was a submerged sub and it took them 3 low altitude fly overs to figure it out

What were the conditions and at what altitude was the helo?

It is generally pretty good in my experience. :slap:

well it was one of my first games so there were a few things i wasnt doing right. in answer to your question it was day clear good visability

most of what i was doing wrong was based around looking at the 3d view as oposed to out the pilots view and understanding the game play diff between em

ive filed this mission under glitch it posses to many questions why didnt the ddg fire? like i said i did turn the truth on so it really was there  i even managed to hit it with the penguin. if i had to guess bug? somthing to do with the quick missions ive found the ai behavior kinda eratic when you run em, the AI FFG doesnt engage the hostile ship at close range other bad examples i dont use the quick missions anymore, things seem to work better in the full missions
