View Full Version : Bandwidth Issues with MP

Ok here's the rub, i am rather embarrassed to admit that i am only connected via 56k modem. Broadband is just to :cussing: expensive yet in this country.

As yet i have searched in vain to find a MP game, but at the same time i am concerned that my connection speed will cause latency issues that could spoil the game for everyone else, (or just me, when i find a torpedo already homing up my 'keester?' , because lag let me down).

I have seen several other posts regarding locating MP games, and i have even looked at your excellent calendar facility (to no avail). I am just to wary of using ICQ, (been flooded by Spam too many times with it), so is there any other way i can find out about MP games; provided of course I don't become the high ping lepper first

Welcome aboard.

Now on to those issues. As for the calendar .. just looking doesnt help. If you know you have free time at such and such day ... simply post that and youll find people in no time. Unfortunatly the calendar is quite slow with filling these days, I guess because of new year and some real life issues people have. Generally speaking ,the calendar is for scheduling games ahead of time. For quick games ICQ (or the Pager here) or GameSpy is recommend. As for the connection issue. Well I think as long as you don't host it shouldnt be a problem. Even if you host a small game, like 1vs1 or so it should hold up fairly well.

I'm on 56K and I can host game with up to 4 players. Sometimes when I join games get lag but that only happens 1/4 of the time, and its generaly because someone is doing something stupid; like making a mission where 1000 ASMs get fired 200 miles away from where everyone is playing.
