Earlier today a Tyrian P-3C Orion patrol aircraft sunk a Mariner Akula class nuclear attack submarine similar to the one pictured. The sub was sunk 160 nautical miles north east of Bluefields after it collided with a seamount while attempting to evade two torpedoes. According to Intelligence the sub was armed with the latest Russian supersonic missiles making it a threat to both Tyrian warships and cities. The P-3C reported later spotting a submarine rescue buoy in the area indicating the sub’s crew may still be alive but trapped on the seafloor.

The P-3C later returned safely to the Dom Hasquez Naval Air Station to a victorious welcome.

Report from crew of K-317, received via emergency telephone from a rescue buoy deployed from the submarine.

Suffered reactor incident during high speed evasion: computer controlled valve on primary steam output tube was closed while reactor was at max power, resulting in an immediate rupture of the primary steam loop. This incident flooded the reactor compartments with radioactive steam, killing 7. The reactor scrammed automatically and the radiactive steam was contained to the engineering as the ventillation system sealed itself.

The force from the resulting explosion caused a momentary loss of depth control which, due to our proximity to the bottom, caused us to immediately impact the seafloor, which caused another 14 injured.

Our backup life support systems are functioning and the integrity of the hull is good, however, we cannot deploy our escape vehicle due to the depth, which is around 510m.

The K-317 is lost. Our only hope is a rescue.

We are currently investigating the reason the valve was closed while the reactor was in such a condition, but we suspect saboteage at our last refit.:gdamnit:

Sonobouys recored the crew of K-317 singing this:

In the town,
Where I was born...
Lived a man,
With PhD...
And he told,
Us of his job...
Making faulty,
Submarines...
So we sailed,
Up to the north...
Till we found,
The Barents Sea...
And we sank,
Beneath the waves...
In our Russian,
Submarine...

We all drowned in a Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine.
We all drowned in a Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine.

Casualties,
Jump by the score...
As we hit,
The ocean floor...
And the air,
Begins to fade...

We all drowned in a Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine.
We all drowned in a Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine.

Radiation,
Makes us hot...
Hypothermia,
Makes us not...
Turning blue,
And glowing green...
In our Russian,
Submarine...

We all drowned in a Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine.
We all drowned in a Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine,
A Russian Submarine.

Thank the Lord! :arms:

SOMEONE finally agrees with me about the Beatles, even if it is ML.

That was a nice adaptation TLAM, BTW.

A lot of people agree on this one. Not nearly enough, unfortunately.

A second transmission has been received from the satilite telephone on the rescue buoy of the K-317, disabled at 510m on the ocean bottom:

Each man has his own reaction to fear. The same with guilt. We can all down here handle our fear, but there is one who cannot handle his guilt.

And that person is the one responsible for this incident. So as to spare his family the shame added to their burden of grief, we will only enumerate the actions of one junior officer of the K-317, as he confessed to us.

This person conspired with agents of the Tyrian Intelligence Service to acquire protocols (apparently acquired from Russian mercenaries similiar to ourselves) that allowed him to hack the automated systems of the ship from an engineering space, giving him the ability to interact with any system depending on his access to physical points of entry.

The P-3 did not find us by chance. He was in contact with agents within the TIS while onboard and gave them our coordinates. During the attack he was to trigger what he thought would be a catastrophic reactor failure and send the sub to the bottom; he believed the resulting incident would completely destroy the submarine and strand it in very deep water.

We are fortunate to have found ourselves on a high flat ridge. The submarine is in eerily good condition and we are comfortable. Nothing at all like what I thought being stranded on the bottom of the ocean in a crippled sub would be like. Had we not torn the ballest and trim tanks, and probably much of the outter hull apart, we would be able to lift off the bottom. It is a tribute to Russian engineering and redundant systems.

However, this will not last forever. We have 9 dead, seven from the accident lost in the engineering space, and two who have died from injuries sustained in the impact. None of the remaining injuries are serious. We have the prisioner under guard and away from the surviving crew, we have little to do but wait and the men are somewhat stressed.

We have about seven to 10 days. If we are rescued by friendly forces or neutrals we will preserve the prisioner for trial in a Mariner court. If we should be close to falling into Tyrian hands or risk dying of our predicament, we will hold a Trial At Sea for the confessed saboteaur and dispense justice before scuttling the K-317.
