Well, normally you will drop torpedoes in deep enough water and your only concerns are not to hit any vessel you dont wanna hit. Sometimes tho, you are going after a Kilo in littoral waters for example and your immediate concern isnt anymore not to hit a vessel you dont want to hit, but more not to bury your torpedo in the dirt.

Personally I have tried and successfully delivered torpedoes to a min. depth of 100ft of water. It might even be possible to drop em successfully in shallower waters, but thats up for keeps. Anyway - for making a successfull drop in 100ft of water you have to fly real low and real slow and your torpedo settings have to be set up right.

- Go to min. Altitude of 300ft (Shift + 1)
- Set speed to min. of 154kts
- Put the plane on direct course towards your drop point
- Either manually fly it down to 100ft or lower or use the autopilot
- If conditions permit go slower then 154kts
- Drop the torpedo

Torpedo Settings
- Ceilling : 10ft
- Search Depth : 10ft
- Floor : 10ft

I'm not really sure on the floor setting right now, as I go from memory, but I'll check that ASAP and if needed correct this post. Bottom line, its possible to air-drop torpedoes in shallow waters, but the backside of that is a really increased vulnerability to you.

I have occasionally had problems getting it below 200 feet using the autopilot. It simply wouldn't go down.

Since my stick was out of commision at the time I couldn't do it manually either. :frown:

For reference, I don't think the floor setting will affect anything - except perhaps if it will hit a bottomed sub or not.
